Where to Paddle / Pinellas County Blueways Paddling Trails
Pinellas County Blueways Paddling Trails
A connected network of marked water trails around the Pinellas peninsula — mangroves, bayous, barrier islands, and urban waterfronts.
Access & parking
The Pinellas County Blueways are a system of mapped paddling routes covering the county's coastline and inland waterways. Trail segments range from short sheltered loops to full-day open-water routes. The county publishes maps with launch sites, distances, and difficulty notes for each segment.
Launching
Dozens of public launches serve the trail system, from city ramps in St. Petersburg to causeway pull-offs and state park launches. Start with the segment closest to where you are staying; the county maps note parking and launch type for each.
Beginner suitability
Several segments are beginner-suitable, particularly the sheltered Intracoastal stretches and the bayou routes. Open-water segments along the Gulf and across Tampa Bay are for experienced paddlers. Match the segment to your skill and the day's weather.
Facilities
Varies by segment — some launches have full facilities, others are simple roadside pull-offs. The county maps list amenities per launch site.
Safety & restrictions
Conditions differ enormously between segments and between seasons. Wind, tide, and boat traffic are the main variables. Always check the specific segment's notes and the marine forecast before heading out.
